Works with your watch

Coach Fartlek reads your runs through Intervals.icu, a free service that collects training data from Garmin, Polar, Coros, and Suunto in one place. This page shows how the connection works and what the coach gets out of it.

HOW IT FITS TOGETHER

One connection is enough

Your watch syncs to its maker's own app just like before. Intervals.icu picks the workouts up from there, and the coach reads them from Intervals.icu. You never connect the watch directly to Coach Fartlek.

Coach Fartlekreads workouts, resting heart rate, and HRV

Intervals.icu is free and takes a few minutes to set up. Coach Fartlek then pulls both your history and new workouts automatically.

BEFORE YOU START

What it takes, and what we do not cover

  • A running watch. Without one the coach has no data to work with.
  • An Intervals.icu account. It is free and takes a few minutes to create.
  • Coach Fartlek covers 5K to the marathon. Ultra and multisport are not covered.

How to connect

The whole connection is five steps: create an Intervals.icu account, connect your watch, sync your history, wait for the first sync, and connect the app. The guide walks you through them.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Questions about the connection

Which watches work with Coach Fartlek?

Garmin, Polar, Coros, and Suunto are the most common. The connection goes through Intervals.icu, so their list of connections is what decides what works.

Do I need an Intervals.icu account?

Yes. The coach reads every workout from there, so the account is required. It is free and takes a few minutes to create.

Does Intervals.icu cost anything?

No. The service is free to use, and the free tier covers everything Coach Fartlek needs.

Is Coach Fartlek a Garmin app?

No. Nothing is installed on the watch. The watch syncs to its maker's own app as usual, Intervals.icu picks the workouts up from there, and the coach reads them there.

What data syncs?

Completed workouts with pace, heart rate, and laps, your full training history, plus resting heart rate and HRV when your watch measures them. Thresholds and zones do not sync: the coach estimates those from your history itself.

My brand is not listed. Will it still work?

Often, but check for yourself: the connections are listed in Intervals.icu under Settings. If your watch is there, the coach can read the workouts. We make no promises about brands we have not tested.
